Open to Press and Public: Senator Melissa Agard hosts Wisconsin Association for Homeless and Runaway Services (WAHRS) Membership and Youth Legislative Education Session at Wisconsin State Capitol

Established in 1982, WAHRS is a statewide membership based consortium of agencies providing services to and advocating on behalf of youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Wisconsin. Each year, over 20,000 young people in Wisconsin face the challenges of homelessness, including limited options for shelter and services; an inability to access medical, dental, and mental health care; and the dangers of exploitation, trafficking, and victimization experienced on the streets. Join service providers and youth advocates to learn more about the services and policies that impact youth in Wisconsin, recommendations of youth action boards across the state, and proposed legislation from the 23-24 session that could positively impact Wisconsin’s youth and families.

Senator Agard states: “Youth are our future. That’s why it is vital to understand the struggles of over 20,000 Wisconsin teens and young adults who experience homelessness. No person should go without the basic necessity of shelter or housing security. From the importance of mental and health care services to the fear of victimization, everyone should care about policies that directly affect homeless and runaway youth in Wisconsin – that’s why I am hosting this educational session to hear from service providers and youth advocates themselves.”
