MADISON – State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa (D-Milwaukee) issued the following
statement on the Milwaukee Police and Fire Commission’s unanimous vote to amend the
Milwaukee Police Department’s controversial immigration policy:
“I applaud Voces de la Frontera, League of United Latin American Citizens of Wisconsin (LULAC), and the City of Milwaukee for their hard work and dedication to keeping our community safe. In a time when our immigrant friends and neighbors are under attack by draconian federal policy changes, it is crucial that we continue to stand up for one of our most vulnerable communities. The great state of Wisconsin and the city of Milwaukee were built by immigrants and continue to thrive economically and culturally because of immigrants. Our diversity should always be celebrated and never feared.”
