BELOIT – State Senator Mark Spreitzer (D-Beloit) released the following statement reacting to the FBI’s arrest of Milwaukee Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan:
“Last week, I warned that President Trump and his administration had increased their threats to citizens and noncitizens alike after the illegal arrest and deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Today, those threats continued as Milwaukee Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan was detained and arrested by ICE, and that arrest was trumpeted on social media by the FBI Director.
“Today’s arrest did not happen in a vacuum. The way that this arrest was handled – with grandstanding online by Trump administration officials who have repeatedly undermined the rule of law and the due process rights of Americans – is not acceptable. Rather than spreading fear, creating hostility, and threatening the role of the independent judiciary, President Trump and his administration should be doing their job, upholding the rule of law, and respecting our Constitution.”
