WISCONSIN — Yesterday, Protect Our Care joined a host of advocacy organizations led by Opportunity Wisconsin to host a town hall meeting hosted by Congressman Mark Pocan in Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District. U.S. Representative Derrick Van Orden was a no-show to speak with his own constituents regarding his votes to slash Medicaid, among other topics.

Medicaid is under attack like never before, with Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress supporting slashing Medicaid by nearly a trillion dollars to pay for tax-breaks to the ultra-wealthy. Medicaid plays a vital role in providing affordable health care coverage for more than 1.1 million Wisconsinites, including more than 140,000 residents across Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District.

“It’s a $1.7 billion impact in the 3rd Congressional District if they cut Medicaid,” noted Pocan. “It will have ripple effects that you are all going to see.”

April marks the eighth annual Medicaid Awareness Month. Earlier this month U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin held a roundtable discussion in Green Bay, WI to hear directly from NE Wisconsin residents who will be impacted if the proposed GOP cuts are enacted. Later today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore will meet with SE Wisconsin residents reliant on Medicaid.
