MADISON – Today, the Wisconsin Supreme Court majority affirmed the Governor’s partial veto authority for the 400 year school funding revenue limit adjustment. Representative Alex Joers (D-Waunakee) issued the following statement:

“For over a decade, the Republican-controlled legislature has refused to provide the necessary funding for Wisconsin schools to keep up with inflation. Through a resourceful and constitutional partial veto, Governor Evers provided a reliable option for school districts to consider in adjusting their revenue limit.

“Republican legislators have been forcing property taxpayers to continually go to referenda to simply keep the lights on at our kids’ schools. Republican legislators can decide to solve this problem at any time by providing the necessary state aid to support our schools.

“We will continue to work to fund our public schools until every child is able to receive the education they deserve, regardless of their zip code. This decision takes us one step closer to that goal.”
