Madison, WI- Senate President Mary Felzkowski (R-Tomahawk) issued the following statement after the Wisconsin Supreme Court upheld Governor Tony Evers’ unprecedented veto to increase property taxes for the next 400 years:
Today’s ruling cemented Evers’ actions to increase property taxes across Wisconsin for the next 400 years. For the median homeowner, this is going to be a $246 increase every two years.
To think that the State can backfill these dollars for the next 400 years is wildly unrealistic and would be fiscally unsustainable. State services would have to be cut and taxes would have to be raised. It doesn’t matter if it’s via property taxes or income taxes, this money is going to come out of the pockets of Wisconsinites from Tomahawk to Racine.
The governor must come to the table to find a solution to this problem that he created, otherwise average Wisconsinites will be forced to take on the financial burden that he has put on them.
