The state Supreme Court today in a 6-1 decision today overturned the process the GOP-controlled Legislature has used to block stewardship purchases, ruling it violates the separation of powers.
The court found the Joint Finance Committee’s power to review purchases after lawmakers had already approved appropriating the funds interferes with the executive branch’s core functions.
