MADISON, Wis. – Today, Governor Evers took action on the 2023-2025 budget. Representative Lori Palmeri (D-54) issued the following statement:
“I promised to fight for the F.A.C.E.S. of the 54th and Wisconsin, fair wages and taxes, accessible affordable housing, clean environment -including water, expanded healthcare access and strong public education. The historic surplus provides an unprecedented opportunity to address the needs of all the F.A.C.E.S. of the 54th and beyond, but unfortunately, the budget as passed leaves too many faces invisible.
“I was glad to see vetoes, making this budget less harmful by striking the elimination of 188 diversity, equity and inclusion positions, the GOP tax plan that did little to support working families, and the requirement for revolving loans in housing rehabilitation so that grants and forgivable loans may also be used.
“Though the budget process might be over, there is still room for continued work to address key gaps during the remainder of the legislative session. The vetoes announced today allow us to continue the work on things like child care, paid family leave, funding of the UW-Systems and Technical Colleges.
“I hope that we are able to work across the aisle to make the lives of all Wisconsinites, regardless of zip code, better. I am committed to continuing to pursue a new culture of true collaboration and am energized to get to work on policies that will bring real relief to the people of Wisconsin this fall.”
