MADISON – Rep. Cindi Duchow (R-Delafield) joined her colleagues in the State Assembly on Thursday to approve the new two-year state spending plan. The 2023-25 state budget provides funding increases for schools and local governments while cutting taxes by $4.4 billion – the largest tax cut in Wisconsin history.
“It’s been obvious for years that our income tax brackets stifle growth and hurt our economy,” said Rep. Duchow. “A lower income tax encourages people to be more productive, more innovative, and sends the message that we want your talent and your family here in Wisconsin.”
Gov. Tony Evers proposed budget called for a $2 billion tax hike, increased overall spending by 22%, and added almost 800 new bureaucrats to state positions. Governor Evers also proposed welfare expansion, the repeal of conservative reforms, and controversial DEI initiatives.
“The legislature delivered on investments in K-12 education, directing more than $1 billion into classrooms, both in public and parental choice schools. We’re funding literacy programs that work, and prioritizing mental health,” said Rep. Duchow. “We’re also supporting child care, setting funds aside to address PFAS, funding criminal justice and corrections, and right-sizing state agencies.”
“My colleagues on the Joint Committee on Finance produced a responsible, pro-growth budget that manages priorities. This budget is made for Wisconsin and I hope Governor Evers signs it.”
