MADISON – The Assembly Committee on Local Government held an Executive Session today on Assembly Bill 245. This bill continues to use the same inequitable shared revenue distribution formula our state has had for more than 20 years. AB 245 additionally attaches unnecessary strings on the use of this funding. Rep. Conley issued the following statement in response:
“As the representative of Assembly District 44, I have continued to push for an entirely new way to calculate shared revenue since I began my time in the legislature. We need a formula that equitably distributes shared revenue to communities around our state. As a former Janesville City Council member and president, I know that our city has received too little for far too long.”
“Last week we heard from local officials from municipalities, big and small, from across our state. Many agree that we desperately need a change in how we distribute shared revenue. Unfortunately, AB 245, is not the change we need. This bill further bakes in the inequities that municipalities like Janesville have dealt with for the past two decades and beyond. As I said today in committee, I believe that this is work best completed in a bipartisan conversation. Communities all across our state – in every district – deserve to have their voices heard as a new formula is imagined and it must be equitable for all.”
“Although this bill was voted out of our committee today, my work on shared revenue continues until Janesville is afforded an equitable piece of shared revenue funding.”
