Today, State Representative Scott Allen (R-Waukesha) and State Senator Romaine Robert Quinn (R-Cameron) released, for co-sponsorship, LRB-2187: relating to sending notice of changed assessment by email.

This bill came about after a constituent missed the board review of a revised property assessment after her notice was mailed to her old address. She requested that use of email notice be explored.

“In our digital world, there is no reason why an assessor cannot also send an email to a property owner,” said Rep. Allen. “If businesses reach out via multiple modes of communication, then so too can property assessors.”

The bill also increases the timeframe for sending out a notice from 15 to 30 days.

“This slight increase does not add a significant burden to assessors,” said Rep Allen, “but it does help property owners have enough time to plan to attend the board of review meeting.”
