arnes to Johnson: “Your lies have enabled and emboldened these extremists. Your failure to condemn this rally is an endorsement of these extremists and their attack on our democracy.”

Barnes: “Senator Johnson’s failure to condemn this rally endangers … law enforcement, threatens public safety, and erodes core principles of our democracy.”

MADISON — Today, Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes called on Ron Johnson to condemn the pro-insurrectionist rally planned at the U.S. Capitol planned on Saturday, September 18th. The U.S. Capitol Police have warned of potential violence at the rally, and CBS News reports that the rally is expected to be well attended by violent far-right militia groups, including the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers.

“Senator Johnson has been one of the principal offenders spreading conspiracy theories about the election and stoking division in our communities,” said Lt. Gov Mandela Barnes. “Senator Johnson, you reap what you sow, and you have sown division, conspiracies, and lies across Wisconsin and the country. Your lies have enabled and emboldened these extremists. Your failure to condemn this rally is an endorsement of these extremists and their attack on our democracy. Senator Johnson’s failure to condemn this rally endangers the brave law enforcement defending the Capitol, threatens public safety, and erodes core principles of our democracy.”
