Madison… The Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association (WCPA) is publicly supporting a Wisconsin state budget request by Representatives Dave Steffen (R-Howard) and Ben Franklin (R-De Pere) for local law enforcement during the upcoming NFL draft April 24th through April 26th.

The two legislators are seeking $1.25 million through the state budget process to be directed to the Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department ($75K), Brown County Sheriff’s Department ($500K), Green Bay Police Department ($475K) and Green Bay Metro Fire Department ($200K). It is estimated that these allocations will address approximately two-thirds of anticipated public safety expenses associated with the NFL Draft. Roughly two-thirds of the economic impact of this event will be statewide.

“Providing local law enforcement with the right tools is essential for keeping communities safe during large events. Proper resources help manage crowds effectively and ensure a smooth and safe event,” said Kelly Bakken, President of the WCPA and Police Chief for Altoona.

Bakken concluded by saying, “Wisconsin is fortunate to be hosting an event like this. It’s important that everyone stays safe, and funding helps give law enforcement the tools they need to do that.”

The NFL Draft is expected to garner more than $4.5 million for state government during the event.
