Hi, I’m Representative Brent Jacobson and I represent the 87th Assembly District for the State of Wisconsin. The 87th Assembly District encompasses portions of Marathon, Waupaca, Portage, and Shawano County. The 87th Assembly District is part of the 29th Senate District.
I want to take a little bit of your time today to discuss the Supreme Court election from earlier this month. Much to my disappointment, liberals will control the Supreme Court for at least the next two years.
The election of Susan Crawford will likely lead to a more liberal Court. Many, including myself, are concerned about how this Court could influence critical decisions on issues like voting rights, abortion laws, the repeal of Act 10, and election laws. I am very worried that her personal politics will get in the way of her duties as a Supreme Court judge. Justices ruling based on their political pressures rather than impartial legal reasoning can diminish faith in the courts.
This election could have long-lasting effects on the state’s judicial landscape, influencing everything from electoral policies to public health decisions.
I hope I am wrong about my assumptions on the future of our Supreme Court, I just don’t think I am.
Thank you.
