State agencies, universities spent millions of tax dollars for few results
MADISON – Senator Eric Wimberger (R-Oconto) released the following statement regarding the Joint Legislative Audit Committee’s public hearing into “diversity, equity, and inclusion” activities in state agencies and the Universities of Wisconsin:
“Today’s hearing puts a spotlight on the millions of taxpayer dollars spent to support Governor Evers’ unconstitutional orders,” Senator Wimberger stated. “The government should not be allowed to divide Wisconsinites based on their immutable characteristics, and then give or withhold benefits because of them. We will continue to hold agencies accountable for their wasteful spending, and end state-sponsored discrimination masquerading as ‘equity.’”
The Audit Committee, co-chaired by Senator Wimberger, approved the DEI audits in May 2024. The nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau then began investigating the amount of taxpayer funds and staffing hours expended to support DEI activities and initiatives in various state agencies and across the 14 institutions of the University of Wisconsin system. They released their findings, Reports 25-05 and 25-06, to the public on April 11.
