MADISON, Wis. – Sen. Patrick Testin (R-Stevens Point) released the following statement after his bipartisan bill that reauthorizes the Enhanced Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) was signed into law:

“Since the PDMP became operational in 2013, it has been instrumental in helping us fight back against the ongoing prescription drug abuse epidemic in our state. However, two provisions were set to expire this year, threatening the future of this important and effective program. My bill that was signed into law today ensures the PDMP will continue for another five years.

“I don’t think it’s any secret that the opioid epidemic has negatively impacted families – both directly and indirectly – in every corner of our state. It does not care about your political affiliation, your financial status or where you live. While that’s certainly unsettling, the good news is Republicans and Democrats have come together over the last several years through the HOPE Agenda to create and provide tools for our medical professionals, as well as our law enforcement agencies, to crack down on the misuse, abuse and diversion of prescription drugs.

“I am pleased that we have been able to continue that trend of bipartisanship by extending the PDMP to 2030. We must do all we can to work together to combat the opioid epidemic in Wisconsin, and reauthorizing the PDMP will surely go a long way toward protecting our communities from these potentially deadly controlled substances.”
