MADISON, Wis. — Today, Assembly Republicans introduced legislation to cut government benefits for the recently unemployed and for new mothers.

Representative Randy Udell (D-47) issued the following statement:

“My Republican colleagues today showed no shame. With a looming recession and thousands of federal employees laid off, they reintroduce bills that kick people while they’re down. There is no reason to prevent hard-working Wisconsinites from receiving benefits from the taxes they pay.

“My constituents have been clear: our priorities should be investing in healthcare, housing, education, childcare. People contact my office every day about these issues, and not a single person has asked me to cut programs that help new mothers. To my Republican colleagues: you live in Wisconsin, not DC. Stop bowing to Trump and start helping your state.”
