Madison, Wis: Representative Ann Roe (D-Janesville) joined state legislators, Planned Parenthood advocates, and medical professionals today to introduce the Abortion Rights Preservation and Restoration Act. This bill would re-establish the rights and freedoms of Wisconsinites to make their own reproductive decisions by repealing the 1849 abortion ban and removing other outdated and unnecessary restrictions.

After the bill’s introduction, Rep. Roe stated: “Politicians do not belong in doctors’ offices, interfering with care and robbing women of their freedom to follow their dreams, care for their bodies, and care for their families. I trust women to make the best decisions for themselves.”

The bills authors and Planned Parenthood explained that if passed, the Abortion Rights Restoration Act would end state-mandated counseling and delays, ultrasound requirements, telehealth restrictions, medication abortion restrictions, admitting privilege restrictions, provider and coverage bans. Medical ethics, freedom, and science should drive public policy – not antiquated and outdated laws. This legislation’s goal is to bring back the power of individuals to make their own healthcare decisions by removing medically inappropriate and dangerous bans and restrictions on abortion care in Wisconsin.”
