Madison – Today, Chairman Thomas Fowler of the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin delivered the annual State of the Tribes Address to a joint session of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Rep. Amaad Rivera-Wagner (D-Green Bay) released the following statement after the address concluded:
“I truly appreciate the strong, powerful address that Chairman Fowler delivered today. The Chairman shared some of the important work that Wisconsin’s tribal nations do, and I was particularly pleased to hear him speak about the need for legalization of marijuana, particularly for medicinal purposes, and about the tribes’ commitment to public health, as evidenced by initiatives like Narcan vending machines. Chairman Fowler spoke of a shared responsibility to each other and to future generations. I’m really grateful to everyone who attended today and for the opportunity to uplift the voices of our state’s tribal nations.”
Today’s speech was the 21st annual State of the Tribes address.
