Green Bay – State Rep. Amaad Rivera-Wagner (D-Green Bay) released the following statement regarding the state Office of Lawyer Regulation’s decision to suspend the law license of Michael Gableman for three years:

“While I applaud the ruling, it feels insufficient compared to the impact of Gableman’s actions. The Gableman investigation, which Speaker Vos himself described as an ‘embarrassment,’ cost Wisconsin taxpayers $2.5 million—and that figure is likely to grow due to blatant violations of open records laws.

This decision is a vindication of the municipal staff and elected officials who were harassed, threatened, stalked, and even faced threats of arrest—all for the “crime” of administering a free and fair election that MAGA extremist voices refused to accept. The fallout in Green Bay was profound: city staff and elected leaders endured years of chaos, including death threats, vandalism, racial slurs, and disruptive Common Council meetings. I, too, was personally targeted.

Despite this, I am proud to represent a resilient community that refused to be intimidated by conspiracy theories and political violence. I remain deeply grateful to the residents of Green Bay for standing firm in defense of our democracy, our poll workers, and our public servants.

We must ensure that taxpayer-funded political vendettas like this never happen again. To that end, I will be introducing legislation in the coming weeks aimed at preventing such abuses of power in the future.”
