MADISON, Wis. — Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) released the following remarks, as prepared, regarding today’s floor calendar:

“Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

“People across our state and across the country are worried about what the future holds. They’re looking for leaders to stand up for them, and to support them and their families to make ends meet.

“The Trump Administration is offering the opposite. The chaos that Trump has inflicted on us is affecting the economy, people’s retirement accounts, the price of groceries, and our kids’ futures. Trump’s actions are hurting working families—and Republicans in Congress and here in the Wisconsin Legislature are cheering him on.

“While Trump is starting trade wars, pushing the economy off a ledge, and laying off droves of federal workers, Legislative Republicans are doing nothing to push back. And in fact, they have decided that the best use of our time here in session today is to make it harder for Wisconsinites to receive their earned benefits in this chaotic time.

“Instead of passing today’s misguided legislation, we could be taking meaningful steps to address our state’s long term workforce challenges, like investing in affordable child care, great public schools, and safe and welcoming communities—making Wisconsin a place where families want to move, work, live, and stay.

“Here’s the bottom line: While Trump is intentionally crashing our economy and hurting working families, Republicans in the Legislature are doing nothing to offer Wisconsinites a hand.

“Thank you.”
