MADISON – Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly met to vote on several unemployment bills. Representative Alex Joers (D-Waunakee) released the following statement:

“At a time when President Trump is making decisions daily that push our economy into chaos, Republican legislators have decided that the best use of our time is making it more difficult for our constituents to access unemployment benefits if they lose their jobs.

“We know that there are steps that can be taken to help support our workforce, but those solutions are not being voted on today. If we were actually interested in addressing workforce challenges, we would be investing in child care, affordable housing, and our higher education system.

“Instead, we are meeting to make it more difficult for those facing unemployment. If the Trump Administration’s policies result in you losing your job, Wisconsin Republicans want to make it harder for you to find the resources you need.”
