Madison – Rep. Joy Goeben (R-Hobart) was shocked and dismayed to learn of the actions taken unilaterally by four members of the State Assembly over Easter weekend.
On Saturday, April 19th, Representatives Clancy, Hong, Madison, and Phelps presented a legislative citation on behalf of the entire State Assembly to an individual, recognizing her for being the first person in Wisconsin to be named “Penthouse Pet of the Year.”
“I am disappointed and frankly angry at these four legislators who took it upon themselves to honor someone for their work in pornography. There was no discussion, consensus, or vote taken by the body to come to an agreement to honor this individual. Last month, these same four legislators voted against a bill that will protect children from pornography. This month, they’re honoring an individual who actively participates in pornography,” shared Rep. Goeben.
In March, the State Assembly passed Assembly Bill 105, which would impose an age verification system for online adult content, with a bipartisan vote. All four of the legislators that signed the citation voted against the bill.
“I think if we’re truly serious about protecting our kids, we need to stop the mixed messages. I call on my Assembly colleagues to stand up and make their voices heard on this issue as well. Our priority is protecting kids, not promoting advocates for pornography, especially via unilateral action and verbiage, not to mention doing so over the Highest Christian Holiday weekend,” concluded Rep. Goeben.
