MADISON, WI – The Wisconsin State Assembly held a floor session today debating several bills targeting the transgender community. Representative Ben DeSmidt delivered his maiden speech in opposition to Assembly Bill 102.
Representative Ben DeSmidt (D-Kenosha) had the following statement:
“Today the Assembly debated several dangerous bills which instill fear and dehumanize the transgender community. I was pleased to give my first floor speech today in opposition to a bill which degrades and imposes unnecessary restrictions on student athletes.
I’m still waiting on this body to address real issues like lowering costs for working families, fully funding our schools, and improving our infrastructure. But instead, we’re wasting time on fearmongering bills designed to divide and distract. I’m grateful we have a Governor who will veto these bills in their entirety.”
