Informing Democracy released a new report detailing the election process steps and officials who will administer Wisconsin’s Spring 2025 elections that takes place on April 1. The report is centralized in a highly interactive, searchable tool to help journalists and pro-democracy champions understand the vote counting and certification processes, and includes:
- A library of research on the election personnel administering the April 1 election, focusing on whether they may pose a risk to election administration, with supporting evidence;
In conducting research into Wisconsin, the nonpartisan, nonprofit organization made up of election professionals, researchers, and lawyers found that Wisconsin elections are largely well run.
“While Wisconsin’s election is drawing the attention of authoritarian influences, we’re keeping alert should any bad actors attempt to sow chaos during the vote counting and certification process. Wisconsin voters should know that their elections are designed to be administered in a secure, methodical, and transparent way, by public servants dedicated to democracy,” said Informing Democracy Managing Director Peter Bondi. “We hope this in-depth guide empowers citizens and journalists to ensure election outcomes reflect voters’ will, not outside agitators.”
However, Informing Democracy did find potential vulnerabilities and identified 14 election officials who raise concern due to anti-democratic tendencies:
- Out of 201 public officials, research surfaced on 14 officials whose findings raised cause for concern.
- Of these officials, nine publicly denied or questioned the results of the 2020 election.
- Two County Boards of Canvass members supported efforts to subvert the fair administration of elections.
- Nine officials pushed election-related conspiracy theories.
