LaToya Bates announced her campaign for Wisconsin State Assembly to represent district 37, which includes northern Dodge, southern Fond du Lac and a small portion of eastern Columbia county. Bates anticipates a rematch against incumbent Rep. Born.

LaToya Bates announced her campaign for the State Assembly today. The campaign filed papers in March and is preparing for a likely rematch against Rep. Mark Born, incumbent and Assembly Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Finance. Bates ran in 2024 but was unsuccessful in winning a seat in the assembly.  Bates has spent the past several months building her team and engaging with her community. She is now the Vice Chair of the Democratic Party of Dodge County, and Co-Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s Disability Caucus.

Bates, an educator and non-profit manager, continues her family legacy in farming and civil service, and says this is what gives her an edge over her opponent.  Bates stated, “No one needs to call and tell me to stand up for families. To fund childcare programs, lunches and schools. No one needs to convince me that family farms are worth saving or that clean water is a priority. It can’t be about politics. This must be about helping people in Wisconsin have what they need to do and be better.”
