MADISON, WI– Members of the Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus, opposed the resolutions to expel the Tennessee Three, and the results of the two young black lawmakers being expelled.
Now that both Justin Jones, and Justin Pearson have been re-instated to their duly elected seats we commend the Shelby County Board of Commissioners, the Metropolitan Council of Nashville, and Davidson County for their swift actions of valuing the democratic process and protecting First Amendment rights.
However, there’s more work ahead. Blatant acts of racism and prejudice must end altogether. We must never silence the people’s will and our youth for a better future. The legislative body can now turn their focus to addressing the real challenges facing their communities such as gun violence and protecting our democracy.
