MADISON – Representative Rodriguez (R – Oak Creek) released the weekly radio address on behalf of Wisconsin Legislative Republicans.

This week the state’s budget-writing committee voted to make historic investments in K through 12 education in our state! The proposal our committee approved provides over one billion dollars in new spending on education.

First, we’re raising revenue limits by 975 dollars per student over the two-year budget to ensure school districts across our state are getting new, spendable money to support our kids.

Additionally, we are targeting assistance to low-spending districts throughout our state, so our school districts that have been fiscally responsible over the years have the support they need to continue educating our children.

Beyond that, we’re making investments in areas we know students need additional support, including nearly $100M in new funding in special education aid, $30M in mental health aids, and $50M for literacy programming to help our students read at grade-level.

We’re also taking steps to close the funding gap between choice and public school students.

Legislative Republicans believe every child is entitled to a quality education, regardless of where they live or where they choose to go to school. Our education package provides nearly 280 million dollars in additional funding for choice and charter students to bring them closer to public school district funding levels and ensure parents have the options available to pick the best educational environment for their child.

Our education budget is a well-rounded package that continues our commitment to fund two-thirds of public education statewide and increases funding for our choice programs, to ensure parents are empowered to pick the educational setting that is best for their kid.
