WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) Chairman and Ranking Member of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, met with Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan at the U.S. Capitol this week.
In the meeting, the Chairman, Ranking Member and Foreign Minister discussed avenues for the United States and Singapore to further our bilateral relationship and pursue regional stability in the Indo-Pacific. Through security cooperation, and multilateral engagement with its fellow ASEAN member states, Singapore has the opportunity to promote a free and open Pacific in the face of China’s escalatory activities in the Taiwan Strait and South China Sea.
Following the meeting, Chairman Mike Gallagher said, “The United States cannot combat the Chinese Communist Party’s aggression alone; we need our allies and partners in the region and across the globe to stand with us and defend shared values. I hope that our meeting today with our Singaporean friends sends a message to Xi Jinping: Singapore and the United States stand together in the defense of their sovereignty, and we will not be dissuaded by malign influence or bullying tactics.”
