Madison, WI – Senator Cory Tomczyk (R-Mosinee) issued the following statement regarding the  Investiture of Janet Protasiewicz.

“Today, Judge Janet Protasiewicz will be sworn in as a Justice to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

I grew up in an America where judges upheld the constitution, where judges understood separation of powers, and where judges applied the law as written by the legislature. I remember when judges did not make political comments, did not take policy positions, and most certainly did not pre-decide cases that could potentially come before them.

In dismissing my recent complaint against her, Janet’s friends on the Wisconsin Judicial  Commission citing the canard of “first amendment protection”, completely ignored that her behavior constitutes a severe ethical lapse; a disqualifying lapse. Judge Protasiewicz is being sworn in to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, not being issued a driver’s license! The judge’s previous statements and emboldened proclamations, regarding abortion and legislative district maps, leaves one wondering if any court that she sits on can be impartial.

Our Supreme Court, the last hope for justice in our state will now be represented by a judge who believes herself to be a super legislator; a political activist who will thwart the will of the people, the overwhelming majority of elected legislators, and deliver by edict what her supporters cannot accomplish through the vote.

It’s not right.

It’s not equitable.

It’s not honorable.

Today is a troublesome day for the Rule of Law.”
