Madison…State Senator Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan) released the following statement upon the Governor signing the 2023-25 Wisconsin State Budget:

“The budget presented to Governor Evers made historic investments in the state’s infrastructure. We also invested in programs that we heard, first hand, that Wisconsinites care about at the public hearings we hosted across the state. The two-year spending plan crafted by the Joint Committee on Finance placed the state on solid financial footing.

“The budget passed by Legislative Republicans included the largest tax cut in the state’s history. This would have been a $3.5 billion income tax cut and a $795 million property tax cut. Governor Evers campaigned on providing a tax cut to the middle class. He did the exact opposite by reducing the tax cut by 95%. The plan he vetoed would have provided relief to individuals making $27,630 or more annually, and married joint filers making $36,840 or more annually.

“The budget as signed includes two projects in the 14th Senate District. The Natural Resources budget includes $100,000 for grants to complete water quality studies required by the Department of Natural Resources for Buffalo Lake. The Montello/Fox River Lock Channel repairs were also fully enumerated.”
