MADISON – Yesterday, Wisconsin voters elected Judge Janet Protasiewicz to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The election of Judge Protasiewicz shifts the ideological control of the court from conservative for the first time in 15 years. State Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison), Senate Democratic Leader, released the following statement:

“Yesterday, Judge Janet Protasiewicz defeated conservative Dan Kelly by a resounding margin in Wisconsin, a purple state where statewide elections are often decided by mere percentage points.

“The voters have spoken, and it’s abundantly clear that they support candidates possessing common sense, sanity, and balance. By electing Judge Protasiewicz, the people of Wisconsin made the choice to defend our democracy, reinstate fairness to the court, and protect individual liberties and privacy.

“This election served as a referendum on the unilateral control legislative Republicans have relished over the last decade. For years, the GOP’s action have been out of touch, policies unpopular, and representatives unaccountable to the voters. Wisconsinites said no more. It’s time to restore representative democracy in Wisconsin.”
