MADISON– At a press conference this morning, Rep. Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) joined Gov. Tony Evers, Lt. Gov. Rodriguez, Democratic legislators, and advocates to introduce the Restore Roe Act to repeal Wisconsin’s archaic 1849 criminal abortion ban. Rep. Robyn Vining released the following statement:

“The majority of Wisconsinites support overturning Wisconsin’s archaic and dangerous abortion ban, and today Wisconsin Democrats have delivered the bill to do just that. I am a proud co-author of the Restore Roe Act. ‘The Will of the People is the Law of the Land’ remains inscribed on the ceiling of the Governor’s conference room. This abortion ban is NOT the will of the people, and it should not be the law of the land. It is time to honor Wisconsin voices and pass the Restore Roe Act.

Overturning Wisconsin’s archaic abortion ban is one of the most pressing issues facing the state of Wisconsin. It is time for Republicans to show up in Madison and debate how we as a legislature will respond to the overturning of Roe v Wade. Republicans cannot continue hiding from their constituents, and medical providers, who are demanding action–action that will protect their lives, their families, the lives of their loved ones, and action that will restore medical professionals to being able to practice the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare. Abortion is a decision to be made by a patient and their doctor, and lack of access to reproductive healthcare impacts the patient, their family, and their community.

We must live and legislate with empathy and compassion. I am dedicated, as your representative, to protect the well-being and rights of my constituents. I will not tire of this work–it is with tenacity and grit we continue forward–forward together.
