Madison – Rep. Paul Tittl (R-Manitowoc) was pleased to vote yes on legislation aiding local governments.
“The state has frozen shared revenue since 2004 under Governor Doyle, Rep. Tittl said. “As a former local elected official, I have been fighting for more money for our municipalities and it’s now coming to fruition.”
The legislation voted on today is the largest increase in state history for shared revenue, with every local government seeing at least a 15% increase in shared revenue.
The new money will be allocated toward important reforms to improve the way local government operates. If local governments come together and provide a service more efficiently, the state will provide a financial incentive to encourage efficiencies, cost savings, and consolidation. Additionally, a portion of funds will be allocated to support law enforcement, fire, EMS, public works, and transportation.
“Public safety has been, and continues to be, a top priority for Republicans,” said Rep Tittl, “Today, we are taking steps to keep our communities safe, ensuring law enforcement services will be properly maintained and not subject to cuts.”
The city of Manitowoc’s existing aid was $5,368,125, and its supplemental aid, under the bill, will be $1,127,899 (Total aid would be $6,496,024). Manitowoc County’s existing aid was $2,558,506, and its supplemental aid will be $1,165,300 (Total aid is $3,723,806).
The bill now heads to the state Senate for consideration.
