On June 20th 2023 Shelley Nelson from the Superior Telegram asked Governor Tony Evers, “Joint Finance has approved funding for projects and state parks in this area […] do you support those projects?”
Governor Evers answered, “Absolutely.”
Today, our governor has vetoed the 2.1-million-dollar funding for Amnicon Falls and Pattison Park, showing that he either blatantly lied to our local media, he is not in control of his own veto pen, or a loose combination of both.
A lot of things come into play in the political arena behind the scenes and I will tell you that this is a political move against the people in Northern Wisconsin by a governor who has no problem bailing out cities like Milwaukee while refusing to help anyone north of Eau Claire.
By playing politics with funding for our state parks, Governor Evers harms not only the great people of Douglas County but also the countless visitors who enjoy these parks’ beauty and recreational opportunities. These renovations are decades overdue. The funding for these improvements would have helped our local economy. A vote against assisting the bare minimum requirements to keep our parks updated is a vote against the people in Douglas County. I call on Governor Evers to reconsider his actions.
We need a leader who makes decisions based on the needs and desires of our communities rather than someone who would rather play political games in the East Wing at everyone’s expense but his own.
