Madison, WI – State Representative William Penterman (R – Columbus) released the following statement following today’s Assembly floor session.
“Too many Wisconsinites suffer harm committed by criminals with lengthy violent histories,” said Representative Penterman. “Families should feel safe in their neighborhoods. It is time to stop letting violent career criminals from spreading fear in our communities.”
Included in the package of bills are reforms doubling penalties for reckless driving, creating a 5 year mandatory minimum sentence for violent felons in possession of a firearm, providing transparency on individuals that have been granted, denied, or had their parole revoked, and defining “violent crime” and “serious harm” for the bail constitutional amendment on Wisconsin’s statewide ballot on April 4th.
“Like I tell groups that visit our beautiful State Capitol, our state statutes are not a suggestion,” said Representative Penterman. “This is the law. When individuals repeatedly choose to break the law, they need to be held accountable.”
