Madison, WI – State Representative William Penterman (R – Columbus) released the following statement following today’s assembly passage of the biennial budget:
“This budget is made for Wisconsin” said Representative Penterman. “I am proud to have voted in favor of substantial investments throughout the state, including the largest tax cut in state history. The middle class will be benefit by collapsing the two brackets into one lower bracket giving taxpayers an average cut of 15%!”
The Republican State Budget proposal funds important priorities of all Wisconsinites, including an investment of an additional one billion dollars for students in our classrooms, with flexible funding for crucial needs such as literacy, mental health, and special needs. Additionally, the budget directs federal resources to support families throughout the state with child care initiatives and child welfare support. This biennial budget invests heavily in transportation, spending more than the governor proposed for local road aids and state highways.
“During the budget process I introduced three budget motions which were included in the 2023-25 state budget,” said Rep. Penterman. “These motions included: $2 million in transportation funding for the Watertown Main Street Bridge concurrent with Hwy 19, funding available for the Watertown YMCA and $42 million to close the funding gap for a new Wisconsin Historical Museum.”
The state budget is balanced, spends $7 billion less than the Governor’s original proposal, and invests in all of Wisconsin. Having passed both chambers, the 2023-25 state budget proposal heads to the governor’s desk.
