MADISON, Wis. – Last night, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed an amendment to Assembly Bill 245, the long negotiated shared revenue bill. The amendment comes after Senate and Assembly Republican leadership, along with Governor Evers, announced a compromise last Thursday. The bill as amended provides an increase of 20% in supplemental aid for the City of Oshkosh and 256.6% for the Town of Nekimi. However, a number of problematic policy items remain.

Rep. Palmeri released the following statement

“While I voted on the floor today to pass AB 245 as amended, I share my colleagues concerns regarding the politically motivated policy that was included in this bill. Rather than simply doing the right thing and funding local governments so they are able to provide basic services to their residents, Republicans chose to limit local control.

“While this is a start, it is not the final solution to funding the gaps communities have been navigating for more than a decade. We must continue to pursue legislation that empowers local governments to create communities where all Wisconsinites want to live, work, and raise their families.
