MADISON, Wis. — Rep. Neubauer released the following statement regarding today’s floor session and AB 245:

“Frankly, the bill we debated today was not ready for prime time. It’s not the solution to our challenges. It may be a fiscal band aid—but it comes with unnecessary, damaging strings attached.

“Our communities have been doing more with less for more than a decade. And to come to the table with a bill that doesn’t meet the needs of the moment is wrong.

“For Racine, this bill doesn’t cut the mustard. The implications of the policy items in the bill are just unacceptable, and there is simply not enough shared revenue allocated to Racine to allow us to address our structural and financial challenges caused by years of stagnant funding. The state has not kept up its part of the bargain for many years and our local communities deserve better.

“We need to go back to the negotiating table and we need to get it right. We can, and must, do better.”
