Madison – State Representative Karen Hurd (R-Fall Creek) issued the following statement concerning the 2023 State Budget and Governor Evers Veto of Town GTA Funds:

Before and during the budget process, my colleagues regularly met and negotiated with Governor Evers on the budget. In exchange for increased spending, we were promised significant tax cuts to Wisconsin middle income earners. We upheld our side but the Governor lied to us and hurt every single hard-working Wisconsinite.

Upon further analysis of Governor Evers’ abusive vetoes, we have found another way that Governor Evers has been hypocritical and hurt hard-working Wisconsinites.

Governor Evers vetoed the mileage aid payment increases of general transportation aids (GTA) to hurt towns and small villages. This program would have provided a 2 percent increase to the mileage aid. But with the veto, every other municipality and county gets a 2 percent GTA increase in 2024 and 2025 EXCEPT towns and small villages who depend on the mileage aid
payments to maintain their many miles of roads

This injury added to the other brutal vetoes of slashing $3.5 billion in middle class tax relief and the unthinkable provision to allow property taxes to escalate out of control for 402 years clearly indicates that our Governor does not have in mind the best interests of Wisconsinites.
