Rep. Bodden Issues Statement on Governor Evers Budget Address

Madison, WI – State Representative Ty Bodden (R-Stockbridge) issued the following statement regarding Governor Evers’ budget proposal.

“Governor Evers’ proposals were filled with unrealistic spending hikes, unacceptable tax increases, and massive expansion of government. His budget address sounded more like free handouts and empty promises rather than compromise. The Governor has promised to work with the legislature on the budget, but instead, he lays out his out-of-touch liberal agenda.”

Wisconsin is in a strong fiscal position due to the Republican budgeting decisions made over the last four years, with a historic projected surplus. The Governor’s proposal increases state spending by 24% and creates 800 new state government employees.

“The budget presented is a non-starter for the people of the 59th Assembly district. I am hoping the Senate and the Assembly will craft a new budget from scratch and rebuild the budget in a conservative and fiscal manner that will be better for Wisconsin. Wisconsin’s taxation and spending have grown exponentially and must be reduced. We need to prioritize spending and return tax dollars to the hardworking people of Wisconsin.”

“Starting from where we are and increasing percentages across the board and creating new government programs is not fiscally viable. The people of our state need tax relief after absorbing the cost of inflation. The last thing they need is the government taking even more of their hard-earned money from them. I’m hopeful the Republican-led Legislature will develop a budget that delivers common-sense reforms, oversight, and financial relief.”

Rep. Bodden will be holding listening sessions around the district in the coming weeks and months.
