MADISON – State Representative Elijah Behnke (R-Oconto) issued the following statement regarding the Governor’s Budget request:
“I was disappointed to hear many talking points that sound nice in theory, but just aren’t practical given the realities of the budget and the long term impact his proposals would have on Wisconsinites. Republicans have worked hard to make sure we have a budget that can sustain programs that work. We need to take a hard look at reforming or eliminating programs that have issues. We need to continue to be good stewards of the rainy day fund so we can be prepared for whatever comes our way.”
“We have some common ground on the importance of some topics like education, water quality, and mental health, but we do have different opinions on how to deal with issues we have been facing. We have to be mindful about spending one-time funding that was injected into the budget and how budget changes will impact future generations.”
