Senate Chief Clerk Mike Queensland, who was placed on leave last month amid an investigation, has resigned, Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu said.

The Oostburg Republican didn’t provide any details of the allegations against Queensland or of his resignation in a short statement. A LeMahieu spokesperson said the resignation was effective Friday.

“Following a credible allegation and an ensuing independent investigation Senate Chief Clerk Queensland has resigned,” LeMahieu said. “Mr. Queensland has denied all allegations.”

The Department of Administration on Aug. 23 cut off Queensland’s access to state buildings at the request of the chamber’s sergeant at arms. Senate GOP leaders have declined to discuss the reasons for the move since.

Sources told WisPolitics that during a Senate GOP caucus earlier this month, members were told not to talk about the situation or ask questions.

The office of Senate Minority Leader Melissa Agard, D-Madison, didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
