THEINSVILLE, Wisconsin – Feb. 3, 2023 – Candidate for the 8th State Senate District Special Election Van Mobley opened a Thiensville campaign headquarters and launched a new website this week.  He cites his growing campaign infrastructure as a sign that he is the candidate best suited to win the February 21st Republican Primary and the ensuing April 4th General Election.

“I am prepared to go all in to win this State Senate seat,” said Mobley. “The campaign headquarters and new website are just another pair of indicators that I am the Republican candidate that can assemble and mobilize a State Senate campaign that is built to win and then lead.”

Currently, the Village President of Thiensville, a position which he has served in since 2012.  In addition to serving as Village President Mobley has served as a Concordia University professor of history and economics.  Mobley’s extensive business experience includes serving as a Board Member for Commerce State Bank among other business ventures.

“As a Village President, economist, and a businessperson I will bring a range of experience to the Wisconsin State Senate,” said Mobley.  “I am building a campaign infrastructure that will allow me to spring into action and hit the ground running on Day 1 upon inauguration.”

His number one priority is to introduce a constitutional amendment to abolish the Wisconsin state income tax while also fighting to reduce the overall tax burden for Wisconsinites.

Mobley pledges to take an active role in the debate over the biennial state budget.  He will encourage leaders in both parties to include a minimum 2-year elimination of the state income tax in the upcoming budget to provide taxpayers with immediate relief and improve their livelihoods as soon as possible.

Mobley will also call for restoring responsible shared revenue practices to strengthen public safety and will encourage the elimination of the $1.3 billion in new spending proposals announced by Governor Tony Evers in his State of the State address.  Mobley believes the more than $7 billion surplus should be used to transition Wisconsin to a no income tax state like Florida, Tennessee, Texas, and others.  He is concerned that leaving the surplus in state coffers will lead to it decreasing in value due to inflation.

“Governor Evers plan to squander the Wisconsin surplus with new spending will only grow the size of government,” said Mobley.  “We need to use this surplus to reduce the tax burden on low income and middle class taxpayers immediately by abolishing the state income tax starting with the new budget.”

Mobley is in a 3-way Republican Primary on the Spring Republican Primary ballot on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.  The winner will face a Democratic opponent in the General Election on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
