Grafton – With less than a week to go before the Special Election for the 24th Assembly District, small businessman and current member of the Ozaukee County Board and Grafton Town Board Paul Melotik issued the following response to Governor Evers’ partial veto of the budget passed by the Legislature:
“With a $7 BILLION surplus, it is utterly incomprehensible to me that the Governor gutted the Legislature’s historic tax cuts. As a small business owner, I know what sort of economic impact this could have generated. Instead of an average of $573 in tax cuts under the Legislature’s budget, the average cut is now a paltry $36. And let’s be clear, the veto to the second income bracket starts at filers making $36,840.
That is the fundamental difference between my opponent and me. That is the difference between Governor Evers and leaders like Speaker Vos, Representative August, Senators Stroebel and Knodl and the dozens of other legislators that have spent countless hours knocking on thousands of doors the last two months. We think if you’re making $36,840 you deserve a tax cut. We think you know best how to spend your hard-earned dollars. My opponent and the Wisconsin left think you’re rich. They think the government knows best. I implore the voters of the 24th Assembly District to vote accordingly on July 18th.”
A longtime resident of Grafton, Paul has successfully co-owned and operated ten different businesses during the course of his career and has served on numerous business association boards.
