Groups Support Compromise Funding Critical Local Services
The League of Wisconsin Municipalities, the Wisconsin Counties Association, and the Wisconsin Towns Association have been working closely with state leaders to craft a proposal that would provide one cent of the state’s five-cent sales tax to increase aid that goes to Wisconsin local governments.
The three groups have issued the following statement:
“The League of Wisconsin Municipalities, the Wisconsin Counties Association, and the Wisconsin Towns Association support the compromise reached by legislative leaders, Speaker Robin Vos, Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu, and Governor Tony Evers.
Collectively, our three statewide local government associations, and the thousands of locally elected officials we represent, encourage all legislators of all parties to support the agreement, which represents the largest increase in state support of critical local services in a generation.
The counties, cities, villages, and towns have been sharing their concerns with state leaders about increased service demands and how they are funded. The willingness of the Governor and legislative leaders to have open dialogue with local officials is appreciated and we support this compromise to allow us to move forward.
This legislation restores the critical link between Wisconsin’s rising economy and the essential services that citizens will demand.”
