Madison – LeadingAge Wisconsin thanks Governor Evers for including increases in funding and support for long-term care in his 2023-2025 state budget proposal.

“The proposed budget includes several key initiatives to support the state’s long-term care and services system.  By moving towards a permanent payment standard for nursing homes and initiating a fee schedule for Family Care providers, long-term care organizations will be better positioned to strengthen their workforces and address the care needs of the residents they serve”, said John Sauer, CEO of LeadingAge Wisconsin.  “These investments are critically necessary to sustain the future viability of Wisconsin’s nursing facilities and long-term care communities,” said Sauer.

In addition to the investments made above, the Governor included funding for a pilot program to address the needs of complex hospital patients in need of post-acute placements; expanded the WisCaregiver Careers program offering scholarships to persons seeking to become certified nursing assistants (CNAs); created workforce incentive grants; and funded additional nurse educators to expand nursing school enrollment.

“Workforce shortages and funding limitations are the reality facing long-term care and assisted living providers throughout the state. The budget initiatives acknowledge these challenges and help to strengthen our State’s long-term care system and ensure quality care for all residents”.

Sauer said he and his members look forward to working with legislative leaders and members throughout the State on these priorities during the upcoming budget session.
