Franklin, WI – Forward Latino, a non-partisan, non-profit service, and advocacy organization is calling for bipartisan action on the United States’ broken immigration system and for emergency aid to be rushed to the border to provide relief to immigrants and border communities.

Darryl Morin, Forward Latino National President issued the following statement:

“Today, as Title 42 is lifted, the American people will see a humanitarian crisis that is not new,  but one that has continued for almost two decades. For this reason, Forward Latino is calling on leadership in the United States Congress to act and pass comprehensive immigration reform that secures our borders, that provides much needed immigrant labor and talent to grow our economy and that unites families and protects those fleeing persecution, fulfilling our commitment to protecting human rights.

While Forward Latino has advocated across the country for the lifting of Title 42 lifted, the sad truth is that the Department of Homeland Security will continue its policy of expedited removal only now doing so using Title 8 authority. This policy will continue to deny immigrants fleeing persecution and extreme violence from being able to apply for asylum.

I have personally met with immigrants south of the U.S.-Mexico border in Reynosa and  Matamoros, Mexico. Many of them had been waiting and suffering for as long as 18 months for their opportunity to apply for asylum in the United States.

We have seen the impact that this policy has had on our moral standing as well as on our economy. Since the implementation of Title 42 we have experienced dramatic price increases on such essential items as meat, vegetables and dairy products as food producers, like all employers struggle to find workers they need to fill vacant jobs.

Forward Latino will continue to work with the Biden Administration and Congressional leadership until this issue is resolved.

Lastly, Forward Latino will continue to surge relief supplies and technology to immigrant relief agencies along the U.S. Mexico Border. Anyone wishing to donate can contact us at (833)LAT-INO1.”
