MADISON – Wisconsin Conservation Voters’ endorsed candidate Judge Janet Protasiewicz was elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court tonight. The victory follows Wisconsin Conservation Voters IEC’s record breaking spring election program.

Other endorsed winners include: Mayor Eric Genrich, Mayor Cory Mason, Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, and several more local candidates. For a full rundown of endorsements and results, visit here.

Wisconsin Conservation Voters IEC invested more than $1.5 million to make sure that on April 4, Wisconsin continued to move forward. Here’s how Wisconsin Conservation Voters IEC did that:

  • Knocked on more than 155,000 doors of voters in Dane, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Washington, Ozaukee, and Portage Counties, including 44,000 doors in the crucial 8th Senate District;
  • Sent nearly 10,000 handwritten postcards to voters written by more than 130 volunteers;
  • Two pieces of direct mail to voters in Senate District 8;
  • Two pieces of direct mail and three weeks of digital ads to voters in Green Bay;
  • 3,000 phone calls to voters in local elections, where elections are often decided by a handful of votes;
  • 15,000 text messages to conservation voters ahead of the February primary, helping achieve the record turnout of that election.

Executive Director Kerry Schumann had this to say on the yesterday’s victories:

“Justice-elect Protasiewicz will finally return balance and fairness to the state’s highest court – elements missing from the court for more than a decade.

With a new court majority focused on the rule of law and the rejection of corporate influence over its decisions, Wisconsin can now begin to rebuild. The possibilities include a more robust democracy, protecting the environment from corporate polluters, and fixing the state’s district maps so that the country’s worst gerrymander is finally snapped.

All three of our endorsed mayors were re-elected, proving that local races are the driver of real progress on the issues residents care most about: the freedom to vote, clean water, and clean energy. A narrow loss in ultra-gerrymandered Senate District 8 also bodes well in a future with fair maps.

These victories are due to the hard work and dedication of conservation voters and the statewide network of coalitions, organizations, individuals, and voters who stood up, worked tirelessly, and voted in droves to pursue a brighter tomorrow for Wisconsin.

We thank everyone who turned out to vote and who worked to make sure others did, too. This is your moment, and we’re excited to get to work to make Wisconsin a cleaner, brighter, and safer place to live, work, and thrive for all.”
