Hi folks! Welcome to our first edition of Tammy Tuesdays, where we will be giving you weekly updates on Tammy’s work and the big fights she’s taking on for Wisconsin families.

Tammy knows that there’s more that unites us than divides. She understands that Wisconsin’s working families all want good-paying jobs, affordable healthcare, and the same freedoms their parents and grandparents had.

Read below for highlights of what Tammy worked on this week:

Backing Made in Wisconsin Small Businesses

Wisconsin is a proud small business state. Main Streets across the state are lined with brick-and-mortar shops, making our downtowns vibrant and our economy strong. Tammy will always put small business owners first, and ensure they have the necessary resources and funding to make their entrepreneurial dreams a reality. On Friday, Tammy visited Beloit, WI to announce a $1 million investment from the American Rescue Plan Act toward Made in Wisconsin small and minority-owned businesses.

Tammy knows that Wisconsin is the small business powerhouse of the Midwest, and is committed to supporting our small businesses.

Investing in Affordable Housing

This past week marked the kick-off of Homes MKE, an initiative that will rehabilitate and reoccupy up to 150 vacant and foreclosed homes in Milwaukee. The $15 million funding for this project was secured by Tammy through the American Rescue Plan and will create affordable housing opportunities for Milwaukee residents.

Tammy is committed to making sure hardworking Wisconsin families have access to affordable housing.

Funding Rural Health Care

Tammy recently visited Chippewa Valley Technical College as a part of her “Delivering for Wisconsin Tour.” On her visit she discussed the importance of the rural health care training grant with students of CVTC who are benefiting from this investment. Tammy backed this investment because she knows our rural health care facilities are facing disproportionate labor shortages and are typically the most deprived of funding and resources. This grant also creates great career opportunities for young people in western Wisconsin, and keeps talent in our rural communities.

Access to health care shouldn’t be limited because of where you live. Tammy will always work hard to do right by our rural communities and ensure that every rural Wisconsinite has access to good, affordable healthcare.

Protecting Our Great Lakes

In March, Tammy called on the Biden Administration to invest in our Great Lakes. With 35% of Wisconsinites living along the Great Lakes shoreline, and many getting their drinking water from Lake Superior or Lake Michigan, Tammy knows it’s critical we protect our Great Lakes from climate-related effects

And when Tammy fights, she wins – no matter how long it takes, or who she has to stand up to.

Last week, the Biden administration announced that Wisconsin would receive $2.5 million toward climate resiliency projects for our Great Lakes. This investment will ensure that Wisconsin’s coastal communities can remain on our treasured shorelines for generations to come.

Defending Our Healthcare Workers

Our frontline healthcare workers are experiencing a sharp rise in violence in the workplace and reporting suggests hospitals are doing little to protect them. That’s why Tammy introduced a bill this week that would protect our hospital, VA healthcare facilities, and home-based hospice workers from violence at their workplaces. Wisconsin’s healthcare workers deserve to feel safe and protected at their workplace.

Supporting Our Farmers

Our farmers are the backbone of this state and work hard to put food on our tables and produce nothing but the best-quality products. Tammy has always proudly stood by our farmers, and she always will. Right now, our farmers are facing a silent but crippling battle with mental health issues and depression and this is further compounded by the lack of mental health resources in rural areas. Tammy knows that right now our farmers need us more than ever, and we need to do all that we can to support them. In the 2023 Farm Bill, Tammy is fighting to secure a $10 million investment for mental health support for rural Americans.
